A View of Thailand and Its Cuisine from Europe

One must be careful with the famous Tom Yam Kung

Travelers to Thailand should remember the following

Many Europeans who have visited this exotic place bring back mixed memories of Thai cuisine. Some are absolutely delighted, others remember only the feeling of 'fire in the mouth.' Indeed, a distinctive feature of many dishes is spiciness and a mix of flavors – for example, sour and sweet.

Behind the spiciness hides an amazing palette of flavors; you just need to savor it. But for an unaccustomed person, sometimes it is simply beyond their ability. In fairness, it must be said that in many restaurants and street cafes, traditional Thai dishes are prepared with consideration for the tenderness of tourists' taste buds, and coconut milk is added to soups to soften the fiery taste.

Therefore, if you literally flew into Thailand yesterday, for example, you shouldn't immediately take risks and try the famous Tom Yam Kung – a hot and sour soup with shrimp and mushrooms, prepared strictly according to a traditional recipe. It can cause nausea and indigestion. It is better to approach getting acquainted with the local cuisine gradually, with a degree of reasonable caution. Warn the waiter to serve not very spicy; for this, you don't even have to speak Thai or English – pointing with your fingers to indicate 'a little' and the phrase 'spicy nit noy' will help even in a remote village.

Thai cuisine – healthy and delicious

This cuisine combines the best traditions of East and West (here West means India), and Thais have adopted many interesting things from other nationalities. For example, the famous Thai skewers, satays, which were brought home by King Chulalongkorn from his trip to Singapore. These are small pieces of fish or meat marinated in spicy herbs, skewered on a lemongrass stick, and they are fried on every corner in any city or village of the country.

If you have purchased tours to Phuket, you will most likely fly into Bangkok airport and from there be taken to the destination. This island is famous for its well-developed tourism infrastructure, and you can find restaurants to suit every taste – with European or absolutely exotic menus, where there are roasted locusts or half-live, slightly scalded shrimp.

Fresh fruits, many vegetables, aromatic herbs, a variety of spices, poultry, and, of course, a huge selection of the freshest seafood, as well as culinary skill, make the culinary aspect of a trip to Thailand truly unforgettable.
