Since March 29, 2009, a new border regime has been introduced at all airports of the confederation. Passport control has been abolished for passengers of internal European flights operated between the 25 states that signed the Schengen Agreement (all EU countries except Great Britain and Ireland).
At Swiss airports, separate air terminals will appear for flights from the Schengen Area and other countries, and customs checkpoints will remain where random inspections will be carried out. As Deutsche Welle reports, customs checks will be retained for now, and in cases where border guards have any suspicions, a document check is also possible.
