A bulldozer is a machine that is a crawler or wheeled tractor equipped with a working tool such as a blade. The blade is a solid metal, slightly convex shield designed for scooping and moving soil. Thanks to the blade, a bulldozer can dig depressions in the soil layer by layer, as well as move it from place to place and level any surface. Bulldozers are used in almost all types of construction of buildings, roads, and hydraulic structures.
The word "bulldozer" appeared a long time ago, in the 19th century, and its meaning is a force capable of moving a large mass of something from one place to another. The first machine called a bulldozer appeared in 1929; it was a huge, noisy tractor with a metal plate rigidly attached to the front, which later also came to be called a blade. The blades of modern bulldozers are mostly removable and movable.
Currently, hundreds of companies around the world manufacture bulldozers. Leading manufacturers: Japanese Komatsu, American Caterpillar, German (European) Liebherr. In Russia, the production of these heavy machines has hardly been carried out since the collapse of the USSR.
Excavators
Can any large construction site in the world do without equipment such as an excavator? Probably not; this equipment is indispensable. An excavator is the main class of earthmoving machines.
The word "excavator" comes from the Latin "excavo," which translates as "I hollow out." The first excavator appeared in 1832-1836; its creation was predetermined by the fact that ordinary workers with shovels could not meet the construction plan for a railway line. Then American Elisha Graves Otis decided to create a mechanical assistant, and thus the first single-bucket excavator appeared. Following single-bucket excavators, multi-bucket excavators also appeared; they were gigantic in size, moved on rails, and could perform a volume of earthwork that ordinary workers with shovels could not even dream of. Excavators proved themselves very well; from that time on, they were destined for success, and this type of equipment was constantly improved until it reached its current state.
A classic modern excavator is a box mounted on tracks. The main working tool of any excavator is the bucket, located at one end of a long movable arm. All excavators are divided into multi-bucket and single-bucket; single-bucket excavators are most common on construction sites.
The development of modern technology allows the use of modern machines to solve many tasks. Rollers
A roller is a heavy machine used for laying and compacting asphalt on the road. In essence, a roller is an ordinary, classic machine, but instead of front and/or rear wheels, a roller has a heavy metal drum (this drum is often called a cylinder or roll). This drum is the main working tool of any roller. To imagine the principle of operation of a roller, recall a rolling pin rolling out dough, only the roller rolls out the asphalt mass, not dough, and most often runs on an internal combustion engine, less often on an electric motor or manual traction.
Rollers, like any other construction equipment, can be divided into many different types. First of all, rollers are divided by the type of contact with the ground: smooth, sheepsfoot, grid, and pneumatic-tired. A smooth roller performs its work with two cylinders at the front and rear; one of these cylinders can rotate at a certain angle, choosing the direction of the roller's movement. Sheepsfoot and grid cylinders are used where work with loose soil is required; they differ from smooth ones in that they have special protrusions (bumps or grid bars). Pneumatic-tired rollers have only one solid cylinder; such a roller is driven by a pair of wheels.
Tower cranes
A tower crane is a tower, in the upper part of which a movable jib is located; the tower itself can also sometimes move in a straight line and rotate. Such cranes are used in the construction of high-rise multi-story buildings to lift building materials to a height and move them from place to place.
A classic tower crane consists of the following main parts: an axle (tower), a movable jib with a winch, a platform with a counterweight, a slewing, hoisting, and traveling mechanism, electrical equipment, and a crane operator's cab (if the crane does not have a remote control function).
Most often, a tower crane is stored in a warehouse as separate parts. Since it has huge dimensions, it is simply impossible to transport it from one site to another as a whole; most often, the platform and parts of the tower with the jib are transported on separate vehicles equipped with special trailer devices.
Cranes
Perhaps the most indispensable machine on a construction site is a crane. A crane is a mechanism, a structure designed for lifting and/or moving a load both vertically and horizontally. The word "crane" comes from the German "Kranich," which means "crane." Almost all cranes indeed resemble a crane in shape.
The first lifting crane was created a very long time ago. Wooden structures that helped builders lift materials to a height have probably been used since the dawn of Homo sapiens. Until the 19th century, only manually operated cranes made of fragile materials were used. Only in the 20th century did cranes begin to be made from metal structures, and electric motors and internal combustion engines were installed on them.
The working cycle of any crane consists of three strokes: gripping the load, moving it to the required height and releasing, returning to the initial position. Depending on the design, all cranes are divided into gantry, tower, jib, railway, overhead, and single-beam. Each name speaks for itself.
