Modern antifreezes with additives for engine protection

Separately, special coolants are distinguished for power units with increased load, which are typical for mining trucks and bulldozers.<\/p>

In technical literature, traditional antifreezes are called 'traditional', 'conventional', and 'Inorganic Acid Technology' (IAT). They contain inorganic additives – silicates, phosphates, borates, nitrites, nitrates. Antifreezes containing benzoic acid salts (for example, Tosol) are also considered traditional antifreezes. Carboxylates are usually not added to their additive package.<\/p>

Currently, traditional antifreezes are considered old-style coolants. They were widespread in the 1960s-1990s, until improved hybrid and carboxylate automotive coolants replaced them. Today, traditional antifreezes are practically not produced in developed countries. But abroad they continue to be used in old model cars that do not place high demands on coolant.<\/p>

Unfortunately, such a trend is not typical for the Russian market. Traditional antifreezes are still abundantly available on it, and can be bought everywhere. It is difficult to recognize such morally obsolete coolants: the manufacturer rarely indicates the full composition of the additive package and the type of antifreeze on the bottle label. However, there are also modern manufacturers on the market ready to offer antifreeze wholesale.<\/p>

Worldwide, the rejection of traditional antifreezes is based on the negative properties of inorganic additives, which are usually part of the fluid. For example, silicates form gels and fine particles that can clog the entire cooling system, damage the pump, or reduce heat dissipation from the engine. Phosphates when antifreeze is mixed with water form a precipitate. Nitrates oxidize instantly and require constant replenishment.<\/p>

On average, inorganic-based additives are quickly consumed, so the service life of traditional antifreeze is short. It can usually be used for no more than 2-3 years. However, each individual automaker determines this period differently.<\/p>
