In order to apply for a job in your field in Austria, you must provide your employer with a diploma that must be confirmed. Recognition of a diploma from a foreign educational institution is called nostrification. Along with the diploma, the academic degree, the right to professional practice, etc., automatically undergo nostrification.
As a rule, diploma nostrification is a paid service (about 60 euros). This fee does not include possible costs for additional exams. The person submitting documents for nostrification must prove that this procedure is necessary for working in Austria in his or her specialty.
Diploma nostrification is carried out at the university that offers training in that specialty. It is important to know the following nuance: if nostrification was denied at one Austrian educational institution, a new application is no longer possible.
To recognize a diploma or academic degree obtained in another country, you need to submit a corresponding request to the dean's office secretariat. The following documents must also be attached to this request:
- passport;
- proof of official recognition of the higher education institution that issued the diploma;
- curriculum vitae;
- birth certificate;
- registration of residence in Austria or confirmation that nostrification is necessary to obtain a job in Austria;
- high school diploma;
- marriage certificate if you have changed your last name;
- grade book or other document containing information about lectures and seminars attended by the student, exams passed, topic of the diploma thesis or dissertation;
- document certifying the award of an academic degree, or a diploma of successful completion of studies;
- confirmation of payment of the nostrification fee;
- written sworn statement;
- original diploma thesis or dissertation with a brief summary in German;
- description of the professional activity you wish to pursue and for which nostrification is required.
All these documents must be translated into German and notarized.
The decision on nostrification of your diploma is made by the dean of the respective faculty. The candidate may be required to take missing exams or submit academic work. Deadlines are agreed upon, and the candidate is enrolled at the university as an extramural student.
If nostrification is not possible due to too great a difference between Ukrainian and Austrian programs in that specialty, you can continue your studies at an Austrian university. Exams that correspond to Austrian ones may be credited.
