Special Economic Zone for Manufacturing Spare Parts

To overcome the difficult situation, on the initiative of the Sollers plant, a special economic zone will be created in the Far East, whose enterprises will be exclusively engaged in the production of spare parts and components. The idea has already been approved by the administration of Primorsky Krai, and the first steps towards its implementation are expected in the near future.

As part of this large-scale project, a site for future enterprises will be laid on the basis of the Sollers – Far East plant, whose products will be used not only by the plant itself but also by other companies, including foreign ones. For example, the enterprise's plants can produce Chery Kimo spare parts, which will then be sent to their destination. It is not yet known exactly which firms will be contracted, what the nomenclature and assortment will be. In the long term, this solution should eliminate the shortage of spare parts in the domestic market.

Solving this problem is all the more relevant and timely, since a law is already being prepared within the Federal Antimonopoly Service allowing dealers to use non-original spare parts for service and sales.

As for the Sollers initiative, the enterprise's application will be considered shortly by the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, after which the project will be further developed. Currently, the plant produces cars of such well-known brands as SsangYong, Toyota, and also produces Chery Eastar spare parts.

The authors of the project rely mainly on Japanese and Chinese manufacturers of automotive equipment, who will be granted tax benefits. In addition, the status of a separate economic zone implies significant government investment, simplified customs clearance, and a significant reduction of administrative pressure on enterprises that are part of the SEZ. Experts also believe that it will be convenient to export spare parts to the northeastern part of China, which has no automotive production of its own. It is quite possible that this will be a mutually beneficial contract.
