Notary Services: Choosing a Notary

Notarization of documents is a guarantee of the legitimacy of transactions

Finding a notary in Kyiv is easy. Just type something like "notary Kyiv", and the Internet will throw at you a huge number of links to notary offices' websites, directories like "Yellow Pages" with addresses, phone numbers and even names of notaries, various forums and chat rooms where you can read reviews about certain notary offices. Thus, you have the opportunity to choose the notary office that you need, conveniently located and specializing in the type of notary services that you specifically need.

Internet forums were mentioned above for a reason. Sometimes it is extremely important to know people's opinions about a particular notary office before you contact them. Especially when it comes to something more than obtaining a permission for a child to travel abroad for vacation or a power of attorney for your property that you give to a close person.

It's no secret that notarization is a certain guarantee of the legitimacy of property transactions, a guarantee of compliance with agreements, etc. For example, if you lend someone money and want to draw up a loan agreement, it is better not to agree to your borrower's suggestion: "Let's go to my notary, he will do everything quickly, no queue!". You will feel much more confident if the notarization is done by your notary, whom you know from previous visits or at least from reviews of disinterested people.

A reasonable question may arise: "Why is the specialization of notaries in certifying certain documents mentioned? Don't all notary offices do the same thing?" To clarify, let's give an example.

Suppose a person needs to get a notarization of a translation – a document whose original is written in a foreign language. Or vice versa, a translation of a document into a foreign language. Most notary offices will refuse such a service and advise contacting a translation bureau that cooperates with a notary. There, you can both get the translation done and have it notarized.
