During the crisis, road transport suffered more
As is known, crisis situations are inevitable in a market economy. Of course, groupage cargo delivery is not as profitable a business as it used to be, but at the same time, the industry continues to generate profits for strong companies. Many understand that crisis situations are additional and invaluable experience, when one can understand how much better one company is than another.
That is regarding the positive aspects. If we take, for example, cargo transportation to China, the decline in this area has become much more noticeable. This is because the refinancing rate rose to 11 percent, which led to an increase in the interest rate on loans. It is much more difficult for companies to make loan payments, which directly affects the purchasing power of the population. As a result, the sales market shrinks, and transportation volumes in logistics decrease.
If we compare cargo transportation by road and rail transportation, we will see that road transport suffered more. But there are exceptions here too. In Belarus, for example, the cost of multimodal cargo transportation has not changed. This is primarily due to the fact that this segment was not very profitable and carriers simply did not have enough vehicles. As for companies providing these types of services in the Republic of Belarus, many note that thanks to the suspension of long-term development strategies and the implementation of anti-crisis programs, large losses can be avoided.
The following conclusions can be drawn. The crisis did not bypass the cargo transportation sector. There are a number of positive and negative consequences of its impact. In some countries, many companies, thanks to flexibility, can overcome the effects of the recession and, in some cases, make a profit.
