The UNESCO report on global migration notes that it is in Germany that conditions for refugees in the recognition of professional qualifications are improving. The authorities are doing everything possible to increase immigrants' chances of employment and obtaining relatively high wages. The level of remuneration that immigrants can expect in Germany has been rising recently.
As noted by 'Russkaya Germaniya', it is no less important that at the same time refugees' access to healthcare, education, healthcare systems and legal protection is generally improving.
The problem of integrating refugees into society remains relevant both in Europe and in Germany. As German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière notes, up to 20 percent of adult refugees who arrive in the country are illiterate. For such guests of the country, the integration process is particularly difficult.
According to the UNESCO report, many refugees, especially women, in Europe and in particular in Germany still lack the necessary professional qualifications and sufficient language proficiency. Consequently, despite the positive dynamics in the field of immigrant integration, further measures are needed.
The report notes that unaccompanied minor refugees arriving in Germany mostly study in special classes, while UNESCO recommends joint teaching in schools for native German children and immigrants.
The report also criticizes the excessive, in the author's opinion, length of preparatory courses for refugees in Germany: 'Preparatory courses, as they are organized in Germany, can be useful, but their long duration may hinder refugees' entry into the education system. Language proficiency requires refugees to master not only oral skills but also non-verbal forms of communication, which they can only learn through interaction with host communities.'
The UN pays special attention to the issue of access to high-quality education for all people, regardless of origin and country of residence. Solving this problem is among the UN's global development goals until 2030. Reports on the degree of humanity's approach to universal access to quality education are compiled by UNESCO every year. However, the cherished goal is still far away: according to the latest report, in most countries of the world, immigrants and their children are not provided with the necessary access to sufficiently high-quality education.
Meanwhile, the number of refugees entering Germany continues to decline. According to statistics, in the first quarter of 2017, just over 60 thousand immigrants entered Germany, which is almost 130 thousand fewer than in the same period a year earlier.
