Sales skills are taught at special seminars
First, you can hire a personnel specialist whose duties will include training sales managers. Second, require employees to engage in self-study by providing them with the necessary information. You can also use the services of companies specializing in conducting trainings or seminars.
It is not hard to guess that each of these options will bring different returns and require different costs. But, as practice shows, the costs of developing sales specialists pay off and start yielding returns quite quickly.
It is worth understanding what special trainings give to those involved in sales. First of all, it is knowledge and understanding of how to best build an active sales system. The basic part of this knowledge can be obtained independently – for example, by searching for information on this topic on the global web. But each sales manager is unique in some way; some information is perceived easily and naturally, while something important they may not grasp on their own. And each client is unique. And how best to identify their needs, how to properly organize and conduct a presentation of a product or service, how to handle objections and ultimately lead the client to closing a deal – the answers to all these questions require experience.
Of course, you can gain this experience on real clients – through trial and error. There is a chance that with due persistence, ability for self-analysis, and a drive for self-education, a manager can reach a high level and become a true sales specialist. But it is much faster, more reliable, and, most importantly, more effective to go through this path in trainings, under the guidance of experienced training specialists who can guide in the right direction and correct mistakes in the process of role-playing games.
Active sales technologies have many nuances. This includes identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the product or service being sold, psychological subtleties in communicating with the client, the ability to take the right position in the negotiation process and hear more than the interlocutor says, and much more. After all, what is hidden behind the often-used phrase 'focus on results' can actually have quite real advantages. If, of course, this focus is backed by a justified confidence in one's own abilities, in having the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully negotiate with a potential client. And a good training definitely adds self-confidence and enthusiasm for work.
Moreover, sales seminars are useful not only for active sales managers, but also for everyone who, due to their line of work, has to communicate with clients: individual entrepreneurs, heads of sales departments, office managers, and any middle and even top-level managers. If only because communication with key, significant clients for the company often occurs at the level of top executives. And mastering the technique of business negotiations in such situations is not just unnecessary for a manager, but necessary, or at least profitable.
Among good active sales managers, one has heard such a phrase: the product does not matter, the main thing is the ability to sell. Maybe it is not 100% true, but there is a considerable grain of truth in it.
