According to Sky News, the number of errors in handling airline passengers' luggage is increasing every year. Thus, according to the British organization for the protection of airline passengers' rights, the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), if in 2005 30 million people could not receive their luggage on time, then in 2006 the number increased to 34 million.
At the same time, it is noted that airlines find many reasons for passengers not to receive adequate compensation for lost items. One of the pretexts is the lack of an inventory of items that were in the luggage. In other cases, companies calculate their value with a discount for wear and tear.
In case of delayed baggage, carriers also refuse to compensate all passenger expenses. Sometimes people waiting for the company to find and deliver their belongings are forced to buy items they already had, postpone trips and meetings. All these expenses should be compensated by the airlines, but it is still very difficult to get them to do so.
