To those who find themselves in Copenhagen in April, we recommend visiting an interesting photo exhibition: 240 best photographs from the Royal Collection, among which are many masterpieces by famous 20th-century photographers. And for those connoisseurs of the sublime and beautiful who have no desire to look at paintings and photographs in museum halls, we recommend another April exhibition – the wine exhibition Vin Austria.
AUSTRIA
International wine exhibition Vin Austria, April 11-14, Salzburg. The traditional international wine exhibition Vin Austria will take place in mid-April at the Salzburg Exhibition Center (Messezentrum Salzburg). It will feature both the most popular and the rarest varieties of wines, champagne, cider, strong and low-alcohol beverages, as well as fruit juices, vinegars and oils from large European producers and small local companies. Among the exhibits are climate-controlled cabinets for wine storage, wine cellar equipment, sets of special glasses and accessories. Book illustrations from Dürer’s era, April 15 – May 9, Berlin. In mid-April, an exhibition dedicated to the art of decorating 16th-century manuscript books will open at the German Historical Museum. The main exhibits will be illuminated manuscripts and miniatures created by artists from the famous Nuremberg Glockendon family – including a prayer book decorated by Albrecht Glockendon in 1533 for Palatine Count Johann II. In addition to manuscript books, visitors will see furniture, costumes, and household items that recreate the cultural and historical atmosphere of that era. One of the valuable exhibits will be a globe created by Georg Glockendon in 1492. The last section of the exhibition will cover 16th-century engraving techniques and modern facsimile techniques. //www.dhm.de
Neo Rauch, April 18 – August 15, Leipzig; April 20 – August 15, Munich. Two solo exhibitions by contemporary German artist Neo Rauch (b. 1960) will open at the end of April at the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Neo Rauch, the main representative of the New Leipzig School and winner of the Vincent Award, is considered Germany’s 'best-selling' artist. The characteristics of his painting style are monumentalism, figuration (incidentally, the artist often uses imagery from the official art of the GDR) and a surreal interpretation of space. Both exhibitions will feature 120 works by the artist from museums and private collections, spanning different periods of his career. 20th Century Photography, March 27 – August 29, Copenhagen. An exhibition has opened at the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen, featuring 240 of the best photographs from the Royal Collection of Prints and Drawings, acquired over the past 30 years. The exhibition explores the history of photography and delves into the diversity of genres, techniques and styles. Among the exhibits are portraits, landscapes, genre scenes and collages by artists such as Man Ray, Sigmar Polke, Albert Merz, Lene Adler Petersen, Poul Gernes, Elke Krystufek, Mike Kelley, Sarah Lucas, Wolfgang Tillmans and Dash Snow. //www.smk.dk

'Las Meninas,' March 23 – May 30, Madrid. It is well known that Diego Velázquez's famous painting 'Las Meninas,' created in 1656, attracted artists of subsequent centuries like a magnet and provoked improvisations on the given theme. The three most famous interpretations of this painting are presented in a recently opened exhibition at the Prado in Madrid. The exhibition opens with a drawing and three sketches of 'Las Meninas' by Francisco Goya, on which the artist worked in 1778-1779, that is, a year before creating his famous painting 'Portrait of the Family of King Charles IV,' which can be seen in the Prado collection. The next interpretation is the first painting from the 'Las Meninas' series created by Pablo Picasso in 1957. The exhibition concludes with five pop-art drawings by contemporary artist Richard Hamilton, who created his 'Las Meninas' dedicated to Pablo Picasso in 1973. Antique Fair and Exhibition Almoneda, April 10-18, Madrid. This year, the major antique fair Almoneda, specializing in art and household items from the 19th-20th centuries, with over 200 galleries participating annually, will celebrate its 20th anniversary. About 30,000 items will be available for sale – paintings, sculptures, photographs, glassware, ceramics, jewelry, toys, clocks, dolls, books, furniture, vintage clothing and accessories. Particularly popular at the fair are designer items from the 1950s-1970s, as their prices are quite affordable. Room for Art, March 25 – June 27, The Hague. This small exhibition at the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery in The Hague is organized jointly with the Antwerp museum Rubenshuis and is dedicated to the artistic and cultural life of 17th-century Antwerp. It features paintings by the little-known Flemish painter Willem van Haecht (1593-1637), who is known to have been a student of Peter Paul Rubens, worked in Paris and Italy, then returned to Antwerp and became a master of the Guild of Saint Luke. In 1628, the artist became curator of the art collection owned by Cornelis van der Geest. Unfortunately, only a few paintings and engravings by Willem van Haecht have survived to our time, which are kept in the Mauritshuis gallery, the Rubenshuis museum, and a private collection. For the first time, these paintings will be shown together in this exhibition. The themes of these canvases are 'rooms for art,' that is, interior scenes of art galleries and cabinets of painting collectors in 17th-century Antwerp. //www.mauritshuis.nl

Europ'art, April 28 – May 2, Geneva. At the Palexpo center in Geneva, several exhibitions will be held in parallel at the end of April.
