Choosing Components for a Laptop

A quality laptop will be a good helper during travels

Searching for a laptop should start with the monitor diagonal and its matrix. Gaming versions of laptops most often have a monitor diagonal of 17-20 inches, which is quite convenient for gaming, while most budget versions have this indicator around 14-15.6 inches.

The matrix varies from TN to IPS. The former is used much more often, as it is not only cheap but also guarantees a high level of brightness and low power consumption, while the latter matrix is favored by designers because it guarantees excellent color reproduction with a wide viewing angle. However, the aforementioned matrix consumes a lot of energy, so it is critically important to choose a laptop with a very powerful battery. By the way, a large selection of matrices is presented here, if you are ready to select components for your device yourself.

The laptop battery must be lithium-ion and have at least 9 cells. Only in this case, if you charge it correctly, that is, first to 100% and then discharge to zero, it will be able to support the standard 2.5 movies. If the battery is "fake" (the device often has an Arabic keyboard and was brought from Dubai), the battery may well work for no more than 2 hours! It is better to add money and buy a laptop intended for "white" countries. Such a laptop has a Latin keyboard and a branded battery, the cells of which were produced in the "right" country – Japan or Korea.

It is important to look at the processor. For quiet work, processors from Intel equipped with SpeedStep technology, which automatically reduces power consumption under low load, will be an excellent choice. As a result, the laptop will be able to run on its own battery much longer. But if it is important to work with graphics or play games, it is better to take a device with an AMD processor.

RAM should be more capacious. In modern laptops, RAM can reach up to 20 GB, which allows not only confident work but also saves battery power, since the processor will rarely need to access the hard drive for additional information. If there is a small amount of RAM, this will not be a big problem – after the warranty period ends, you can open the cover yourself and install additional memory "sticks" in the RAM slot.

Modern laptops can have various storage devices – from HDD to SSD. The former are favored for their high capacity and low price. But if the laptop needs to be constantly carried in sleep mode, it is better to take a device with an SSD, since an HDD, in which mechanical parts are not fixed, may fail.

In other words, for travelers, laptops with SSDs will a priori be considered the best solution – they are not afraid of shaking, high temperatures, and allow much faster loading of the operating system.
