As reported by the Emirati news outlet The National, the list includes, among others, professions such as makeup artists, cooks, bakers, car washers, gravediggers, tailors, waiters, falcon trainers, and others.
According to the acting director of the Department of Naturalisation and Residency, Brigadier General Nasser al-Menhali, since the end of the amnesty in November 2007, authorities have detained more than 25,000 visa violators and persons who illegally entered the UAE.
"Our main concern is the violators. 90% of the professions on the list do not comply with the law on naturalisation and residency in any case. I understand that everyone wants to be with their families, however, I am responsible for combating violators," the official said. "Low-income workers often could not and cannot pay all visa fees for their families, which turns them into illegal immigrants. When we compiled the list of professions, we based it on the fact that it was among the representatives of these professions that the largest number of violators were recorded."
As Russkie Emiraty notes, residents who remain in the UAE after the expiration of their resident visa are fined 25 dirhams ($6.8) per day, and persons who remain in the UAE after the expiration of other types of visas must pay 100 dirhams ($27.3) per day. Persons caught by authorities without a valid visa are deported from the country immediately.
Employers who hire foreigners without a valid work permit will be fined 50,000 dirhams (more than $13,500).
