According to forecasts, the number of refugees in the world will only continue to grow. "The international community will face an ever-increasing flow of people traveling away from home for various reasons," says UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
About 3 million refugees today are Afghans. They are mainly in Pakistan and Iran. 2 million are Iraqis, most of whom are trying to find themselves in Syria and Jordan. 3 million refugees are Colombians, who have become refugees within their own country. 2.4 million are Iraqi refugees inside Iran (last year this figure was 600,000 less).
Overall, the number of refugees within their own countries is 14 million people. The list of countries opening their borders to large numbers of refugees also includes Syria, Iran, Germany, Jordan, Tanzania, China, the United Kingdom, Chad, and the United States.
