Meanwhile, in Israel, where more than a million Arabs also live, there are 5.235 million Jews. France is in third place, with 494,000. In Canada - 372,000, in Great Britain - 298,000, in Russia - 235,000.
The Jewish population of Israel, according to the institute's forecasts, will increase and by 2020 will grow to 6.25 million. Overall, the number of Jews in the world will stabilize, or even decrease. The Jewish diaspora is shrinking mainly due to mixed marriages. For example, in Russia and Ukraine, up to 80% of Jews are in such unions, whereas in Israel only 3% are mixed marriages.
More and more Jews around the world, as Israeli statisticians assure, dream of returning to their historical homeland. This year, the number of repatriates from Western countries promises to be record-breaking, with 3,800 people coming from North America and 3,650 from France. Therefore, by 2020, as the institute predicts, only a million Jews will remain in Europe, and the Jewish population of the former USSR countries will shrink from the current 380,000 to 180,000 people, although it is precisely in the former USSR that Jews adapt best to local realities. The assimilation rate here is the highest - 80%, while in the US it is 50%, and in Germany 60%.
