Czech Interior Ministry counted legal and illegal migrants
According to the ministry, today 542,746 foreigners legally reside in the country, mostly citizens of so-called third countries (non-EU). The largest communities are Ukrainians (122,563 people), Slovaks (114,137), Vietnamese (60,594), Russians (37,535), and Germans (21,294).
In 44% of cases, foreigners arrived in the Czech Republic for employment. This is the most common reason for moving. In second place is "other purposes" – 18.4%. Next come family reunification (17.5%), study (9.3%), and entrepreneurship (7%).
In its report, the Interior Ministry also gave the number of illegal migrants detained in the republic. In the first half of the year, there were 2,376 people – 132 more than in the same period last year.
The ministry has detailed information on the composition of illegal migrants only for the second quarter of this year. From April to June, police detained 1,162 visa violators. Of these, 65 people were caught at international airports before crossing the border. As reported by Vinegret.cz, citizens of 83 countries contributed to illegal migration. Among them, Ukrainians (342 people), Moldovans (125), Russians (85), and Vietnamese (78) led.
