Employment in the Czech Republic – Key Points and Nuances

Today in the Czech Republic, many vacancies are offered even for workers without experience

What jobs are offered to Ukrainian citizens in the Czech Republic

The greatest need for employees from Ukraine is in the working sector. It is important to note that knowledge of the local language and qualifications or work experience are not always required from the candidate. However, in this case, one should not count on high-paying positions. Accordingly, wages will be low.

If the future employee has some command of the Czech language, experience, and certain knowledge, there is a chance to get a more attractive position. For example, specialists in technical professions (engineers, mechanics, builders, electricians, etc.) are in high demand in the Czech Republic. There is also a need in the medical field, as local specialists move to other developed European countries for permanent residence, where they receive higher pay for their work.

Please note that for a nurse or doctor from Ukraine to be employed, it is necessary to confirm their education document and qualifications at a local university and pass the relevant exam.

Required documents for employment

Any legal work in the Czech Republic begins with the process of finding a suitable vacancy and negotiations with the future employer. If the foreign candidate is suitable for the position, the employer must notify the Czech authorities of the open vacancy, as EU citizens or Czechs themselves may apply for it. If there are none, an employment contract is concluded with the Ukrainian citizen. After that, a permit to carry out work activities must be obtained from the local employment center (maximum validity period – 2 years).

A permit is not required for:

Persons who have obtained a residence permit;

Those with refugee status;

Qualified employees (EU Blue Card);

Citizens of the European Union and their relatives;

Unskilled workers;

Those arriving for work for a period not exceeding 3 months (in other cases, a Schengen visa will be required);

Seasonal workers.

It is also important to remember that documents for a work visa to the Czech Republic are issued strictly for a specific vacancy. First, the future worker receives an invitation, then a visa is issued, and they go to their employer. Upon arrival, it is possible to change employers, but this is a rather problematic process, as the initial employer must notify the relevant administrative authorities of the worker's decision.

In summary, it is worth briefly listing the documents required when applying for employment in the Czech Republic. First of all, this includes the Ukrainian national and international passports, photocopies of the main pages of this document, as well as a color photograph 3.5x4.5 cm, medical insurance, a bank statement, and documents confirming the purpose of stay and the original document of booked accommodation.
