Mechanical welding
It is based on the application of conversion of friction energy to heat the parts being joined. In this process, friction occurs between these parts, which generates heat. This type of welding is usually used for joining parts that have a rod shape – for example, pipes. It is performed using specialized machines, in whose clamps the parts to be welded are placed. In this case, one part is stationary, while the other is pressed against it with force during rotation. And then they are heated, and after some time they undergo fusion.
This type of welding is very economical and has a high coefficient of efficiency. With this method, it is possible to weld metals of different homogeneity – for example, copper with aluminum, etc. This welding is most effective in the manufacture of metal-cutting tools: drills, cutters, etc.
Thermal welding
In this type of welding, the edges of the workpieces are heated using a special device until the required temperature is reached. Then the edges of the workpieces are pressed against each other with little effort, and the resulting seam at the joint gives the part the necessary strength.
Such welding can be used for joining any metals of various thicknesses and in any location (on land, underwater, in space). With this joining, the resulting parts have good mechanical properties and minimal metal consumption. This type of welding has many varieties (arc, gas, laser, etc.).
Thermomechanical welding
Welding is performed by heating the parts to be welded. During it, pressure and thermal energy are applied. The joining of the necessary parts into a single whole occurs through mechanical loads, and the heating of these parts leads to plasticity of the material from which they are made. This type of welding also has many different varieties (resistance welding, forge welding, diffusion welding, etc.).
