In European countries that face the same winter climate problems, a fundamentally different approach to providing heat in the home prevails today. Calculations show that with modern construction technologies and finishing materials, it is much more profitable not to let heat escape from the house than to later constantly compensate for its leakage by significantly increasing the intensity of heating during cold weather.
This approach is optimal both from an economic point of view and in terms of hygiene. It is more economical to initially create a home with a high level of thermal insulation than to overpay large sums for heating for decades. And even if increasing the intensity of heating allows you to maintain room temperature in the home despite thermal insulation deficiencies, drafts from old windows and cold air near the floor (warm air rises) will increase the risk of colds. Medicines for these ailments are also not cheap today, not to mention the pricelessness of health.
Often, to improve the thermal insulation of a home, people limit themselves to installing new plastic windows to replace old wooden frames. This is a mistaken tactic. Indeed, most of the heat from an apartment escapes through windows of traditional design, and plastic frames with double glazing are well suited for our winter. But their installation is only part of the necessary set of measures.
A lot of heat escapes through the front door, especially in old houses where stairwells have poor thermal insulation.
