Online job placement in Germany

Virtual job exchanges are real chances to find work in Germany

The easiest way to find a suitable job in Germany is the internet. In a selection prepared by journalists from Deutsche Welle, the most famous sites with information about who German employers need are chosen.

Two paths to the goal

Of course, such online resources are less popular than large portals like StepStone, Monster or Jobware. The number of job ads here is many times smaller, but these job exchanges will lead to the goal faster. The employer posting the information understands: the vacancies should be aimed at those who are just starting their career, or at students looking for a part-time job, a company for an internship or for writing a thesis.

The most visited such portals include Absolventa.de, Jobeinstieg.de, Berufsstart.de, Staufenbiel.de, Praktikum.info. All of them offer roughly the same set of services. As a rule, these sites have two options for job searching. Using the search engine, you can independently select vacancies and send resumes to companies. Another option is to leave your resume in the database and wait for the employer to contact you.

In addition to general characteristics, each portal, of course, has its own features. Our brief overview will help you navigate.

For graduates and more

On the Absolventa.de website, vacancies are offered by several hundred companies and organizations, including well-known companies such as Adidas, Audi, Deutsche Bahn, Lidl, Tchibo, Vodafone, as well as some German universities. Job search here can be done by specifying a region, city, specific specialty or position. Work, internship, traineeship (Traineeprogramme), writing a diploma thesis or doctoral dissertation – this portal increases the chances of success.

A separate section Karriere-Tipps is dedicated to advice for job seekers. Here you can also, after registering, participate for free in seminars on preparing for an interview or group testing using the assessment-center method.

The same target group is for the portal Jobeinstieg.de: young professionals with a completed higher education and more or less clear ideas about their career. For convenience, some vacancies are distributed into sections IT, economics and finance, engineering.

After registering on this site, a specialist can post their resume and subscribe to a newsletter with information about new vacancies.

Successful start

Berufsstart.de appeared on the web in 1996. Currently, it features more than 30 thousand job ads. Interesting information is presented in the Bewerber-Karriere section, in particular, data on starting salaries for bachelor's and master's graduates, as well as trainees in the Trainee program.

Here you can also learn about what is important when writing a resume, as well as familiarize yourself with the list of "hidden champions", companies that are not large and not very well-known, but occupy leading positions in their industry.

Plan your career

Staufenbiel.de is a large job portal founded by the Staufenbiel Institut, which specializes in recruitment marketing. The main focus is on finding young professionals who have already obtained higher education in fields such as automotive, banking, finance, economics, consulting, trade, computer technology, law, engineering and natural sciences. In addition to vacancies, this online resource contains detailed articles with analysis of the labor market in various fields.

And by registering in the "club" Staufenbiel Career Club, you can for free submit your resume for review by experts in employment matters, get individual advice from them, take a test that assesses personal and professional qualities, and also helps plan your career.

Internship with a guide

The portal Praktikum.info is created for students who want to do an internship in German companies or are looking for part-time work opportunities during their studies. More than three thousand companies publish their vacancy information here. The portal also posts offers for professional training. Information about interns' salaries, their rights and obligations can be found in the Karriere-Tipps section.

Also published here are the results of the Praktikantenspiegel survey of interns, which Praktikum.info conducts annually together with the portal Absolventa and the consulting company Clevis. Based on the points that respondents who have completed an internship there give to companies, a list of the top 10 firms is compiled. Among the evaluation criteria are the working atmosphere in the company, the variety of tasks for the intern, and the opportunity to receive feedback on the results of the work.

In general, no matter which portals you search for an internship or job, recruiters advise doing this actively, using both of the above methods, and on all possible portals. As you know, he who seeks always finds.
