Railway transportation is one of the more convenient options for cargo transportation
Russia has a well-developed railway network covering almost the entire territory of the country, and cargo transportation using this very type of transport is a priority. Today, many companies for the transportation of tangible assets believe that it is better to use such a type of transportation as railway cargo transportation.
Why is railway transport preferred? As mentioned earlier, the Russian Federation is a country of railways. That is the first reason. The second significant factor influencing the priority of this type of cargo transportation is the ability to move almost all cargoes, namely those that cannot be transported by trucks, especially when it comes to long distances.
The railway will deliver any cargo: bulk, oversized, liquid – the list is very long. Another positive factor is the high carrying capacity of wagons, which makes it possible to move large volumes.
Often, container transportation is carried out by rail. What are container transportation, which is rightfully considered the most convenient type of cargo movement? A container allows even oversized cargo to be transported. And for the supplier of goods and their buyer, container transportation is also good because it guarantees the integrity of the cargo.
Currently, railway cargo transportation is the most attractive type of cargo transportation, and this is not only because of the favorable rates, which are significantly lower than road transport tariffs (let alone air delivery). Moreover, today the well-known «door-to-door» scheme is increasingly being used on railway transport, which is undoubtedly extremely convenient for all companies that use such a type of cargo delivery as railway container transportation.
The main methods of cargo transportation in the country by land transport are road and railway lines, and competition unfolds between them. There are no perfect modes of transportation; each has its pros and cons. Perhaps the most important advantage of railway cargo transportation is the relatively low prices. One should not discount the need to move cargoes for which railway transport would be an unacceptable option.
For railway cargo transportation, various models of freight wagons are used, allowing goods to be transported to their destination with minimal losses and under the best conditions. For example, for various types of bulk products, special wagons are used: for transporting crushed stone and sand, these are open wagons; grain is transported in closed wagons (in which, by the way, other cargo can also be transported).
It is also very convenient to transport various perishable goods by rail. For them, there are specialized refrigerator wagons, thanks to which products can be transported inexpensively and quickly to any point in the country. Speaking of the weaknesses of railway transport, it is probably the rigid connection to the railway network.
