General structure
The operation of roller shutters is provided by all their components: a protective box, a shaft, guides, and a locking system. The main movement of the roller shutter is the winding of the curtain onto the shaft, which crowns the entire structure from above. Depending on the drive type, roller shutters are distinguished with manual drive and automatic. Small private shops and retail kiosks are usually equipped with manual control structures. To simplify human labor and reduce energy and time costs, the manual mechanism provides an inertial stacker, thanks to which, when the cord is actuated, the curtain easily rises. Spring and cardan mechanisms also participate in this process. A special locking device can fix the curtain at any point of movement. Such structures are an ideal solution for low openings.
For full comfort and covering large openings, you can install roller shutters with automatic electric drive. Their price, of course, is noticeably higher than mechanical counterparts, but the level of comfort during their operation is much higher. In administrative institutions, private and industrial garages, automation of sectional curtains is necessary.
Despite the presence of mechanisms facilitating the movement of the barrier, moving it manually is extremely difficult. The operation of such a curtain is initiated by pressing a button on a stationary or remote control. In the most modern models, it is possible to set a clearly defined time for opening or closing the barrier.
Locking devices
Locking devices that securely lock the gate can be located in different parts of the curtain. There are roller shutters with a top lock, which is installed next to the box protecting the shaft. The most common are structures with side latches. Barriers that lock in the part of the bottom rail are also often found. The most advanced models are equipped with an electric lock. Its activation or deactivation is done with a special key.
