Reality shows – what viewers like

The reality show "Survivor" (Russian analogue – "Posledniy geroy") aired in more than 40 countries worldwide

This genre unites programs of various directions and has its own distinctive features:

• no script;
• no retakes;
• ordinary people take part in the show;
• the show's conditions are close to reality.

In some cases, the filming conditions can be extreme, and according to the script, there is a struggle for life. In the program, participants are isolated from society, various situations are devised for them, and their natural life and reaction to the new environment are shown. For example, in Russia the show Dom-2 is very popular; the latest news and rumors for today can be found without any problems on the official and numerous unofficial websites of the TV program.

Production

Such a show was first demonstrated back in the 40s of the last century. Over time, such programs became very widespread; many TV channels filmed and showed them to viewers.

Today there are several options for producing such programs, which combine different approaches. But in each case, a group of people, which may sometimes change, is in a confined space. They are followed by numerous cameras, and everything is then shown on television. Sometimes the broadcast is carried out in real time, including via the Internet.

All projects have their own goal, and each participant in such a show can become a winner.

The participants are both characters and rivals. According to the rules, they leave the show, for example, based on the voting of viewers or participants, at the discretion of the management, and so on.

Filming can be done in different ways. These can be cameras installed in the participants' homes. Also, the participants themselves can be hung with appropriate equipment. In most cases, the filmed material is processed, but sometimes it goes directly on air.

Also, filming can be carried out only at a certain time (household moments, competitions, communication, voting, events), and the result is shown to viewers.

Modern trends

Today, viewers are offered reality shows in several directions:

• voyeurism;
• makeovers;
• survival;
• training;
• games.

Some shows become so popular that they are shown in other countries or copies of their own versions are made, sometimes updated and supplemented. For example, abroad such reality shows as "Big Brother", "Broken", "Pimp My Ride", "The Biggest Loser" and others are very popular.

In our country, viewers have slightly different tastes and preferences, so "Behind the Glass", "The Last Hero", "Hunger", "The House", "Star Factory", "Weighted" were very popular. Viewers especially like it when celebrities, politicians and stars take part in such shows.
