«Traveller Digital Identity» – a joint project of the governments of Canada and the Netherlands
«Traveller Digital Identity» is a joint venture between the governments of Canada and the Netherlands. Initially, it will be tested on tourists traveling between these two countries. The program is expected to be ready for wider global deployment by 2020.
The announcement of this project was made at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, but it did not become big news for some reason, notes Russianweek.ca. According to data presented at the forum, by 2030 the number of international tourists will increase to 1.8 billion from 1.2 billion in 2016. This will increase security requirements in the aviation and tourism sectors.
Like other programs such as Nexus, which allows people to move faster between Canada and the United States, the new project will ask travelers to provide detailed personal information, including financial and vaccination data. In addition, the pilot program will use biometric data such as retina and facial recognition, which will significantly speed up the passenger identification process.
