Different types of furniture require different approaches to care
Nowadays furniture is made from very different materials, hence the conclusion that each type of furniture requires an individual approach. Let's consider some types of furniture that are most often found in homes.
Mahogany furniture
To clean any mahogany items, they are wiped with a cloth moistened with burdock oil, vinegar, or tea. Such cleaning helps remove dust and dirt and also restores the furniture's shine.
Walnut furniture
To make such furniture last a long time, it should be wiped with a mixture of dry red wine and olive oil in a one-to-one ratio. After wiping, polish the furniture with a piece of flannel cloth to a shine.
Oak furniture
After you have wiped the dust off oak furniture with a damp cloth, it needs polishing. To do this, mix beer and sugar, wipe with this mixture using a damp cloth, then polish with a dry cloth.
Scratches and small cracks on oak and mahogany furniture are masked with a solution of iodine, rubbing the cracks with a small swab.
Chipboard furniture
To clean such furniture, you will need washing powder, which is dissolved in water and applied with a cloth. Sometimes veneer bulges appear on chipboard furniture. In that case, take clean newspaper, fold it in several layers, and iron on top with a hot iron.
Polished furniture
On polished furniture, dust that accumulates in the apartment is most noticeable. To remove dust from polished surfaces, it is best to use special wipes, after which be sure to treat the surface with an antistatic liquid.
Never wipe dust with a cloth moistened with hot water to avoid streaks. Sometimes polished furniture is rubbed with furniture polish, which is sold in any household chemical store. Also, with such products, you can not only polish the furniture but also cover scratches and cracks on the polished surface.
If guests are about to arrive and the furniture is not cleaned and there is no time to run to the store, you can use old grandmother's tricks:
– any stain is easily removed if you rub it with a woolen cloth moistened with vegetable oil. Then polish the stain with a piece of flannel.
– iron stains are removed with the following solution: mix alcohol with vegetable oil in a one-to-one ratio and rub the damaged area with this mixture.
– after a hot dish, white spots remain on the surface; remove them by wiping the spot with a cloth with salt.
– gasoline or acetone will also not harm polished furniture, and greasy stains can be removed with them as well.
– insect marks are removed with a cloth pre-moistened in white wine.
Furniture upholstered with soft fabric collects and retains the most dust and dirt, which requires thorough cleaning. It is recommended to vacuum upholstered furniture once every three days, and it also needs to be wiped with a clean damp cloth. We do this: cover the furniture with a sheet, moisten it with acidified water, and after a while beat it out with a soft beater.
Leather furniture
Like polished furniture, leather items need daily wiping with a damp cloth. To make leather furniture shine, it is recommended to wipe it with a cloth moistened in beaten egg white. You can also purchase a special silicone sponge available in stores.
We do not recommend washing leather furniture with detergents, including soap.
