To build a house or an outbuilding, you can very successfully use a rounded log. After all, this technology allows you to 'assemble' the building from a set, like a construction set. However, in reality it is not as simple as it seems at first glance, and without some experience it is hardly possible to cope with this task right away.
But construction experts prefer this technology to others precisely because of its aesthetics and ease of work. After all, the special shape, identical for all logs in the kit, allows you to perfectly fit the logs to each other according to a special assembly map.
Usually a wooden log house is installed on a concrete foundation. At the same time, the strength of such a foundation must exceed 70 percent when calculated using a special formula. Only after that can log walls be installed on it. On top of the foundation, before laying the first row of logs, it is necessary to create a layer of antiseptic material at least five centimeters thick.
To maintain the desired geometric shape of the building, special wooden dowels are used, fastening the rows and preventing distortions.
Our ancestors used moss as insulation in the grooves and crowns of the log house, but today this natural insulation is unpopular because small parasites like bedbugs often breed in it. Therefore, the main modern insulation for wooden houses made of rounded logs is jute-linen.
During construction, it must be remembered that any house, whether brick or wooden, undergoes shrinkage. Wooden houses 'settle' even faster than stone and brick ones, approximately during the first half year after erecting the walls. To prevent distortion and cracks in the house body, it is necessary to use a jack mechanism to adjust the height of the posts, as well as ties in window openings and fasteners in the necessary places.
And how to know if your house needs finishing? During the construction of the house, the logs that make up the log house must be impregnated with special compounds that slow down wood decay and preserve the excellent natural color of the wood. If this is not planned for some reason, it will be necessary to use interior finishing, the best material for which is hardboard, which will protect the walls.
