'Girls from Lviv'
'Girls from Lviv' is a story about four friends: Polina, Ulyana, Svetlana and Olya, who came to Warsaw in search of work and a better life. In Poland, they share a room in a dilapidated old house, work illegally, and often have to perform duties that do not match their education. The girls miss their former lives – Svetlana left two children in Lviv, Olya left her loved one.
According to Katarzyna Ucherska, who plays the complexed, timid Olya, the series tells of a clash of two nationalities – Polish and Ukrainian. 'It's a comedic story, but sometimes it is full of bitterness,' says the actress. 'Poles will be able to see that they are not as tolerant as they think. We are not demanding any radical changes in Polish national consciousness, but we hope that the series will make Poles reflect,' says Ucherska.
Anna Maria Buczek, who plays Svetlana – an engineer by education who works as a cleaner in Poland, also holds this opinion. The actress believes that the series 'Girls from Lviv' shows the truth about Polish and Ukrainian societies and the relations between the two nations without embellishment. 'We show society as it is. That means Ukrainians in our series can be both very unpleasant and very likeable people. We also have both good and bad Poles,' says the actress.
The Polish actresses prepared very intensively for the series, including working with a Ukrainian language consultant. The heroines will speak Polish that is stylized as Ukrainian. 'To avoid subtitles, we had to slightly modify the language. The viewer will have no trouble understanding,' says Anna Maria Buczek.
The scriptwriter of the series 'Girls from Lviv' is Robert Bratter, and the director is Wojciech Adamczyk. The series will consist of 13 episodes, and its premiere will take place in September. According to Polskie Radio, 'Girls from Lviv' can be watched on TVP1 on Sundays at 20:25 Polish time.
