Dell Streak 7 Tablet Computer

The Dell Streak 7 does not aim to compete with the iPad. Its main target is the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Dell's main distinguishing feature is its affordable price – you can buy the tablet for about 330 euros.

Inside the Streak 7 beats a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, complemented by 512 MB of RAM and Android 2.2.2.

The Dell tablet handles music, video, and photo playback without issues. All common formats are supported! Full-HD videos play with some lag, while HD-Ready videos have almost no lag. Movies cannot be watched on a TV screen because the tablet lacks an HDMI output.

The total storage of the Dell Streak 7 is 16 GB, but it can be expanded up to 32 GB via SD memory cards. Network access is provided by WLAN, and connectivity with other devices is via Bluetooth 2.1. Data can be transferred via USB, but note that you cannot transfer data and charge the tablet simultaneously.

The Streak 7 features a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel camera with flash on the back. Photo quality is on par with other tablet computers.

The tablet is equipped with sensors: compass, GPS, accelerometer, and light sensor. The Dell lacks a gyro sensor.

The tablet's casing is made of high-quality plastic, so it doesn't slip out of the user's hands. All switches are in their proper places. The memory card slot is always covered, but the port for connecting a docking station is not protected. The Dell Streak 7 has access to Android Market and Applanet, which is quite rare for tablets in this price range.

Typing on the Dell is quite comfortable – the keys are large enough to type without interruption. Data from your tablet is automatically copied to a personal computer via USB. Data transfer speed is 7 MB per second, almost twice as fast as the Galaxy Tab P1000.

The Streak 7's display is of good quality, but it depends on the viewing angle. In terms of performance, the Dell display approaches the iPad and surpasses the Galaxy Tab P1000. The Streak 7 is 13 mm thick and weighs 420 g, so it easily fits in a jacket pocket.

What disappoints is the battery – active surfing and movie watching will drain the tablet in 2 hours 10 minutes. The Galaxy Tab P1000 can last 5.5 hours under the same load. Thus, it can be concluded that the only competitor to the Dell Streak 7 is the Galaxy Tab P1000, but Samsung is somewhat more expensive.
