Every year, about six million people come to Munich's Oktoberfest.
Qingdao, China
In this Chinese port city, perhaps the largest Oktoberfest after Munich takes place. Three million visitors (half as many as in Munich), even though the city has 3.5 million inhabitants. Like most Oktoberfests outside Germany, the festival in Qingdao tries to copy German traditions. And there is a reason: from 1898 to 1919 the city was a German colony, and the local brewery was founded by German immigrants.
Blumenau, Brazil
The situation is similar in the South American city of Blumenau, which got its name in 1850 after a German. The city is located 7000 from Munich, and more than 700,000 people come here annually for Oktoberfest. For those who like to party, there is even a special website where you can listen to and learn traditional festival songs in Portuguese.
Cincinnati, USA
More than half a million people (many with German roots) come each year to the largest Oktoberfest in America in Cincinnati, Ohio. Particularly popular are the 'innocent games' (Goodwill Games) – barrel rolling and beer mug running competitions.
Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada
Canada's most famous beer festival gathers more than half a million guests. In addition to parades and beer tents with traditional German music, there are elections for 'Miss Oktoberfest'. The climax of the festival is the so-called Oktoberfest-Thanksgiving-Day-Parade, which 150,000 people attend every year.
Taybeh, West Bank
In the city of Taybeh (West Bank), beer is brewed according to the Bavarian beer purity law. Every year, the Khoury family of brewers organizes an Oktoberfest, for which they specially invite musicians from Germany. For the rest, the festival resembles a regular festival with hip-hop, DJs, and even a children's circus troupe.
Incidentally, as Deutschland.de notes, the city of Munich has no objection to the use of the name 'Oktoberfest' by beer festivals in different countries of the world. Only the logo with the name 'Münchner Oktoberfest', which depicts two beer mugs, is protected.
