The type of tent depends directly on the purpose of the hike. If it is a short-term tourist hike, you will need a tourist tent designed for use in moderately difficult conditions. In this situation, you should also consider whether you will be staying in the camp constantly or plan to move along the intended route. Depending on this, the weight of the tent is determined. In the first case, there are no special restrictions, and in the second, of course, it is better to choose a lighter tent.
The main element of a finished tent is its skeleton-frame, which gives the structure its shape and fixes it. It must be made of strong, rigid, and at the same time light materials. Today, tent frames are made from a symbiosis of two materials – aluminum and fiberglass.
The second important quality of a good tent is a reliable roof and a dry, warm floor. There is a great variety of fabrics from which the covers of both are made. The fabric for the tent floor must have high moisture resistance. The ideal waterproof parameters are considered: 2000-4000 mm. If the values are lower, the fabric will definitely get wet in the rain; if they exceed, it will be very heavy.
So, for example, the floor of a tent intended for route travel should be polyester or polyamide. Its water resistance should be at least 3000 mm. When choosing a tent, you also need to pay attention to the size of the cells in the mosquito net and the number of windows.
When going on a hike, it's not enough to take just a tent; folding furniture will also come in handy. The simplest example of folding furniture is a folding table with removable legs. Such tables are often used by street vendors. They are quite suitable for a trip out of town, especially a relatively short one. However, this is only the initial stage of the development of folding furniture.
At first glance, it may seem that the requirements for the tabletop are minimal. Nevertheless, even for it, some special developments have come in handy. Thus, plastic, laminated plywood, chipboard, and aluminum are used for the production of tabletops. When making a tabletop from wood, it is additionally treated with varnish and pre-impregnated.
Such elements as fasteners and clasps also belong to the category of 'folding furniture'. At first glance – little things, but it is they that ensure the reliability of camping and hiking items. Modern manufacturers equip camping equipment with special zippers that prevent moisture penetration. Their high-quality mechanisms have no play and are designed for long-term use.
