Lighting for a Children's Room

Lighting for a Children's Room

Properly selected lighting is not only comfort but also your child's health

When choosing lighting for a children's room, the following factors should be considered.

First – the main overhead lighting. The overhead lamp or chandelier for general lighting should be properly calculated relative to the area of the room, i.e., 15-20 watts per square meter.

Second – as a rule, children very rarely stay in one place. They also play in the room, but games vary greatly, from a calm board game to playing ball. Consequently, the shades of lighting fixtures should be made of safe material; they can be made of metal or plastic.

Third – zone lighting is correct for a children's room. In addition to the main overhead light, you should designate a relaxation area, a work area, and a sleeping area. For the relaxation area, you can limit yourself to overhead light and an additional directional lamp or a wall sconce. The work area – a desk for doing homework – is defined by a desk lamp. The sleeping and relaxation areas overlap, i.e., a sconce or a lamp with a dimmer switch will suffice. The advantage of a lamp with a dimmer is that you can adjust the brightness of the lighting.

Today, lighting manufacturers offer a huge assortment of children's series lamps. Bright, colorful lamps and chandeliers in the shape of cartoon characters made from safe materials. Such lamps will definitely delight any child, and parents themselves will also be satisfied.

But it should be remembered that any chosen lamps should not shine in the child's eyes. The shades should be directed so that the light flux is not directed into the face.
