Features of Metal-Plastic Windows

Modern plastic windows look very attractive. They are stylish, beautiful, and come in many shapes (arched, rectangular, round, lancet), sizes, and colors.

A factor such as a long service life (at least 20 years) adds even more appeal. Moreover, these windows have good sound and thermal insulation properties and are very low-maintenance (they are not afraid of rain, frost, or summer sun, do not crack or warp), so they do not require any special care. They only need periodic washing from the outside with a solution of soap or laundry detergent.

The window unit consists of a frame (window box) and a glazed sash (casement), which are supplemented if necessary with vents and transoms.

Sashes can be fixed or opening. They can be divided by mullions (imposts). There are also windows where the sashes rest on each other – stulp windows. Various decorative overlays are used to decorate windows.

The numerous advantages of a plastic window are determined by its main elements – a special profile used for manufacturing sashes and frames, as well as glass and hardware.

The plastic hollow profile is made from polyvinyl chloride with additives that ensure strength and a long service life. The profile is additionally reinforced with steel reinforcement.

As practice shows, for Russian climatic conditions, windows made from three-chamber profile are suitable. Also, a two-chamber profile may be suitable, but with a special thermal insulation insert, as long as the frame is not too narrow. Narrow frames are recommended to be used only in houses with external insulation. In panel multi-story buildings, these frames do not guarantee the required thermal insulation.

Of course, five-chamber profiles can also be used. But that is a matter of personal preference.

The thermal and sound insulation performance of PVC windows largely depends on the tightness of the sashes against the frame. Therefore, they must have at least two sealing contours.

The most common color of PVC profiles is white. But other colors can be ordered individually.
