Main characteristics of aluminum sheet.

An aluminum sheet is a flat rolled product made from pure metal or its alloys. Its thickness is typically 0.5-10 mm. If the thickness is more than 10 mm, it is no longer a sheet but a plate.

Aluminum in sheet form is valued for a host of qualities: it is light, ductile, corrosion-resistant, electrically and thermally conductive. Thus, it can be actively used in all spheres not only in industry but also in household repairs: home, office.

In order not to make a mistake in the choice, sheet aluminum can be selected by grades. All grades available in the country are certified. Let's consider the most popular ones.

D16. Duralumin is a deformable alloy. It is based on magnesium, aluminum, and copper. This alloy is characterized by high strength, but it is not very corrosion-resistant and is quite difficult to weld. However, such a sheet deforms easily. Its properties allow sheets of this grade to be used in railcar and aircraft construction.

Grade AMG has a fairly high degree of corrosion resistance and ductility. Aluminum of this grade is divided into two groups: the first group – AMG2 and AMG3, the second group – AMG5 and AMG6. Sheets of the first group are well weldable, easily deformable, and corrosion-resistant. Such sheets are mainly used in the automotive industry, construction, and pipe production. The characteristics of the second group sheets are the same, but at a much higher level. This alloy is also called marine aluminum because it retains its properties even in various aggressive environments.

Grade AD is pure aluminum: here about 99.3% pure metal. The remainder is iron and silicon. Impurities significantly reduce ductility and electrical conductivity, and also increase strength indicators. AD is used for cladding of cargo vans, and advertising billboards are also made from it.

Grade AMC is very similar to AD, only better in terms of deformation and weldability. The weld has the same corrosion resistance as the whole sheet. Among the disadvantages, one can note only low strength. AMC is used in lightly loaded structures.

Thus, different grades of aluminum sheets are intended for different purposes. Choosing will not be so difficult if you know exactly what you want to get as a result. Since all grades have passed the relevant checks and are approved by state standards, there is practically nothing to fear - the sheet will be of high quality.
