Nevertheless, in the USA you cannot find a single Russian-speaking emigrant who would not be able to learn elementary English phrases and would not understand at least a little of what people around are saying. In fact, learning English and any other language is a natural process that will be as successful as you want it to be, and there are no other factors here. Even intelligence plays a minimal role, but much more important is the desire and aspiration to communicate in a new language, to be part of a new society, to participate in discussions, conversations, arguments, debates, etc.
Thus, one must prepare for life in an English-speaking society in advance. But is it necessary to cram the English-Russian dictionary for this? Is it necessary to learn countless irregular verbs, thoroughly study the English tense system, and do complex translations from English to Russian?
Of course, it would be nice if every person moving to the US for permanent residence had plenty of free time and managed to do all of the above. And it would be even better if everyone who wanted to learn English had no other important worries and devoted themselves to learning completely and without reservation. But in reality, everything is different, and very often we cannot spare even one hour a day for learning English. What to do in this situation?
The answer is obvious — it is necessary to find a way of learning English that would have sufficiently high efficiency even with short sessions. Does such a method exist?
Yes, fortunately it exists. And in this regard, we can note even more, namely — you do not need to try to achieve the impossible, but rather direct all your efforts to learning spoken English. All you need to do to feel confident in an English-speaking society is to be able to communicate using the most elementary expressions and phrases. You do not need to know the entire English-Russian dictionary by heart, you do not even need to know a certain number of words. All you need for the first time in the US is to know greeting phrases and expressions, know how to say 'No' and 'Yes', how to shop in a store, or rather — be ready to answer additional questions from the seller, being able to make a translation from English to Russian. You just need to know at least approximately how and what to say in the simplest situations. This will give you enormous self-confidence and faith in your abilities, which will only strengthen with each new day in the US.
