Netherlands tightens immigration rules

The increase in the age limit is part of a family reunification agreement reached in Brussels by the EU justice and home affairs ministers and proposed by the Dutch immigration minister Hilbrand Nawijn. Also submitted to the Dutch parliament is a proposal under which the salary of foreigners intending to marry a Dutch citizen must be at least 130% of the minimum wage. Additional restrictions are also planned on reunification of parents with children over 12 years old.
