Israel is located in southwestern Asia and is washed by the Red, Galilee, Dead, and Mediterranean seas. The country borders Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt. More than half of Israel's territory is desert, and the remaining area consists of hills with rocky soil and mountainous regions. On the territory of the country, which covers 22 thousand square meters, over 8 million people live.
Israel preaches the principles of democracy and is a multinational country, although the Declaration of Independence proclaims Israel a Jewish state. In the country, along with Jews (75%), Arabs (20%) and other ethnic groups – Bedouins, Circassians, Druze, etc. live. More than 80% of the country's residents profess Judaism, 15% – Islam, 5% – Christianity and other religions.
Israel is a parliamentary republic in which the highest legislative body is the parliament – the Knesset. The parliament consists of 120 deputies from different political parties and is elected for a term of 4 years. At the international level, the president represents the state and performs ceremonial functions, but actual power lies with the head of government – the prime minister of the country.
Israel has no constitution, and the fundamental norms of law are presented in Basic Laws adopted by the Knesset. A feature of the country's domestic policy can be called the disagreement of two parties on the independence of autonomous Arab territories. Left-wing parties call for the creation of an independent state of Palestine and seek to reach agreement peacefully, while right-wing parties in Israel advocate a forceful solution to the issue and the retention of territories.
The country's economy is developing dynamically, and the standard of living of local residents is considered the highest among the populations of Middle Eastern countries. The state language of the country is Hebrew.
The capital of Israel is Jerusalem, and the business center is in Tel Aviv. The official day off in the country is considered Saturday – Shabbat, which according to local customs begins at sunset on Friday and ends at sunset on Saturday.
The country annually attracts many tourists. The main reason for a trip to Israel is the desire to visit excursions in Jerusalem and to be on the Holy Land. Also, tourist interest is caused by the abundance of historical and religious monuments, while modern resorts of Israel with their high-class treatment have become attractive.
