Monuments of ancient Rome attract millions of tourists from all over the world to this remarkable city
Italy is one of the most beloved countries visited by our tourists annually. Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, the Alps, Sicily and Sardinia – these names are familiar to all of us since childhood, we all dream of visiting there at least once in our lives. However, Italy attracts us not only with ancient architectural monuments, excellent climate, cleanest beaches, unique vegetation of the islands, famous Mount Vesuvius, amusement parks and other attractions. It was the Romans who gave the world the very legacy that we all today use almost every day in our lives.
The most famous is Roman law. Its principles are studied by law students in all countries and continents as fundamental. Moreover, the famous Code of Justinian is now the basis of the legislative systems of many European states. Roman law was distinguished by its pragmatism, fairness, a certain conservatism, and was very well systematized and structured. It was the Romans who divided common law into private and public.
The second concerns the functions of today's prototypes of the traffic police. Caesar began to regulate public movement and urban transport, since there was an enormous amount of traffic on Roman roads, and there were always many visitors. For this, one-way traffic was introduced, a ban on travel during daylight hours, restrictions on the movement of visitors, paid public transport, and much more. Special services worked on the roadway, like today's traffic police. They monitored order on the road, compliance with traffic rules, resolved disputed situations on the roads, collisions and contradictions between parties.
The roads themselves also began to be built for the first time in Rome, including bridges and a roadway paved with a hard surface. Some of the roads are alive to this day, you can drive on them using, say, Ford Transit, or renting any other car. The roads were paved with durable stone to support the movement of legions during the rainy season.
Roman fountains are another historical moment that has come down to our days. The Romans always valued natural resources, especially water. It underwent triple purification, so local residents always had excellent health.
The first media also appeared in Ancient Rome. The first handwritten publication 'Daily Deeds of the Roman People' was a kind of ancient newspaper. Also many holidays came to us from Ancient Rome, including, for example, April Fools' Day.
