From 1892 to 1954, Ellis Island received more than 12 million people. In the immigration service building on the island, legal and medical checks of immigrants were conducted. In 1990, this building was renovated and turned into a museum.
In addition to exhibitions, the Immigration Museum hosts documentary screenings and educational performances for children aged 5-12. The museum also houses a genealogy center where visitors can learn about their family's immigration history.
The museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (longer in summer). Ferries to the island depart every 40 minutes from Battery Park. Museum admission is free; round-trip ferry tickets cost $12 for adults and $5 for children aged 4-12. As Travel.ru notes, it is recommended to set aside at least 5 hours for a visit to the Immigration Museum and the Statue of Liberty.
