Cowon C2 Multimedia Player:
device interface and screen review

The Cowon C2 player is equipped with a resistive screen. This means that all control of the player can be done with your fingers and a special stylus is no longer required. The display uses modern TN+Film technology, and the presence of a special film provides additional protection of the surface from unwanted effects.

The brightness and contrast levels of the display in the Cowon C2 gadget provide comfortable operation in any lighting. The monitor has a resolution of 320 by 240 pixels, which is a fairly good characteristic, considering the physical dimensions of both the device as a whole and the particular element in question.

The interface, or more precisely, its improvement, deserves a separate mention.

If you look at the last few models from Cowon, you can easily trace the trend of introducing touch controls and systematic work on improving them, while developing and implementing their own ideas and filtering out unnecessary ones. Each new player, each new modification turned out better than the previous one, but all the experience and many ideas proved inapplicable when the Cowon C2 player was being developed and created due to the small size of its display.

It was the need to create an interface almost from scratch, combined with accumulated experience, that made the player control process thoughtful, comfortable and convenient even in small details. In addition, the player supports Flash UI technology.

The Cowon C2 player, presented in the store COWON Ukraine | COWON.ua, allows you to choose one of two design options. Working with the device begins with a greeting that displays an animated picture and a thematic caption. All this changes depending on the time of day. All picture variants are united by a theme called 'One Fine Day' and it gives the impression that the player lives its own life. A quite practical design feature is the display of the current time of day against the background of the picture.

The player divides all items and sections of the main menu into four separate work areas, which are combined into a single ribbon using the welcome screen. Thus, to move from one to another, you need to scroll them vertically. Each new displayed desktop is made in the form of a matrix and contains a certain set of icons and widgets. Even though nothing can be customized personally, the content of each desktop is arranged quite logically, as is their order.

When moving from one area to another, you can see empty spaces that are planned to be filled with the release of future firmware versions.

Cowon C2 Media Player:
file content browser review

The Cowon C2 player combines all its available capabilities with a single common tool – the file browser.

All basic, intuitive elements for work are located in the corners. The arrow in the upper left corner allows you to return to the application that called the browser. The window-shaped image provides a set of buttons at the bottom of the screen: Up moves the user one level up the tree; Top instantly takes you to the root of the catalog; the heart adds a specific content item to the favorites list, and the buttons labeled 'Delete' and 'Delete All' delete one or all files respectively. The arrows labeled 'Prev' and 'Next' move the user to adjacent menu areas, the number of which depends on the application that called the browser.

On the left side, the ability to access search is displayed, and on the right, the player displays a list of bookmarks for a specific category.

Cowon C2 player has a file structure similar to other devices of this brand – while in the root folder, you need to select a sorting principle, and one of the submenu items will be the browser. At the same time, the screen allows you to view four consecutive file or folder names.
