As stated in the document, a citizen of Moldova who has acquired citizenship of another state acts only as a citizen of Moldova in relations with Moldova, and a person who previously held Moldovan citizenship may reacquire it, while optionally retaining citizenship of the other state.
The legislative initiative on dual citizenship was proposed by Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, according to RIA "Novosti". This legislative initiative was developed based on the provisions of the Constitution of Moldova, which does not provide for restrictions on dual citizenship.
