In the first half of 2018, migrants ensured population growth in the Czech Republic
According to data published by the office, from January to June, 29,220 people arrived in the Czech Republic from abroad, while 11,500 residents left the country. Thus, the net external migration balance was positive, amounting to 17,720 people.
As reported by Vinegret.cz, the largest difference between foreigners arriving and leaving the Czech Republic was recorded among citizens of Ukraine (+5,600), Slovakia (+2,700), Bulgaria and Romania (1,100 each).
In the first half of the year, 55,736 children were born in the Czech Republic. Half of them were born out of wedlock. The number of deaths during this period was 58,062. The average age of deceased men was 73 years, women 80 years. Thus, the natural population decline was 2,326 residents.
Czech authorities registered 20,916 marriages and 11,856 divorces from January to June. In 60% of cases, the divorce involved minor children. The average duration of marriage for divorcing couples was 14.9 years.
