1. Windows do not let cold into the apartment at all
Any window releases heat from the room. Doors and windows account for about 75% of all heat loss in a standard house. There are no completely warm windows. But modern PVC windows are on average more than twice as effective as old wooden ones at retaining heat.
2. Windows completely absorb street noise
Incorrect statement. Street repair work, traffic noise - these noises, although weakened with proper windows, will still be audible. High-frequency noise is absorbed much better. Thus, PVC windows do not absorb all noise, but significantly reduce it.
3. There is a vacuum inside the double-glazed unit
This is not entirely true. If there were actually a deep vacuum in the double-glazed unit, the glass would simply crack from the atmospheric pressure pressing in. In reality, during production, a slight vacuum is created inside the unit so that the glass is tightly pressed against the frame. But this is not a vacuum in the generally accepted sense.
4. Windows are one hundred percent airtight
The airtightness of windows is limited to their ability not to let in drafts.
5. The thicker the profile, the more chambers – the better
There is no point in artificially increasing the complexity and thickness of the window profile for making windows. Its thermal resistance is already about twice that of the double-glazed unit. So if it freezes, it will freeze on the glass anyway. And such cold that even the profile freezes does not occur in Russia.
6. Double-glazed units with argon are the best
Two things need to be said here. From a physics perspective, the thermal conductivity of ideal gases is directly proportional to pressure and does not depend on anything else. Therefore, it makes no difference whether it is argon or air. The difference between the characteristics of an ideal gas and real gases is a few percent. And such a small difference does not justify expensive equipment. Second point. Without a special device, the presence of argon in a double-glazed unit cannot be determined. So it is easy to fall for a counterfeit.
7. PVC windows with lead inserts are harmful to health
This talk started after profile manufacturers began adding calcium-zinc to production. But in fact, all plastic products contain the same harmful elements. And if the product is certified, it can be trusted.
