Corrugated sheet is a cold-rolled galvanized sheet or with a coating of protective polymer or aluminum layer. In production, the sheet is passed through forming rollers, giving it a corrugated shape, thanks to which it becomes rigid and resistant to bending.
Corrugated sheets come in different types, as they are produced in various shapes, thicknesses and heights, depending on the tasks. There are three main types: wall, load-bearing and roofing.
Walls, gates and fences are made from wall corrugated sheet. The size of its rib ranges from 8 mm to 20 mm. Load-bearing corrugated sheeting is used to install permanent formwork when constructing foundations, as well as monolithic reinforced concrete parts of building structures. This is the most durable corrugated sheet, the corrugation height of which is greater than 57 mm. Roofing corrugated sheeting, as the name suggests, is used for roofing and covering wall panels. These corrugated sheets are equipped with channels for water drainage, and their corrugation height can be greater than 44 mm.
Furthermore, profiled sheets are divided into five groups. The reason is the base material. The base can be: steel (but without protective layers), copper, aluminum, galvanized steel and chrome-plated steel.
Steel profiled sheet is not particularly popular due to its low corrosion resistance. Other sheets, including those with polymer coating, have high corrosion resistance, which proves a long service life, but their price is much higher.
Speaking about the pros and cons of profiled sheet, we can note the following nuances. The sheeting is quite durable and not subject to rapid wear, this material is also light in weight. The advantages of corrugated sheeting are modern shapes and fairly simple installation. Its service life is quite high – up to 50 years, and the favorable price of corrugated sheet allows its use in almost all areas of construction. Corrugated sheeting can be quickly dismantled and reused.
There are significant disadvantages of corrugated sheets without coating. Of course, they are much cheaper, but their service life is shorter because the sheets are susceptible to corrosion. There is also another significant drawback of any corrugated sheeting. If it is used as a roof covering for a dacha, country house, or any other living space, then during rain a drumming overhead is inevitable, as the sound is amplified, which can be uncomfortable. But that is a matter of taste.
