Best cities for gastronomic tourism

Japanese restaurateurs can boast the largest number of Michelin stars

According to experts, Japan as a whole can boast the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants, and its capital is the leader in the number of establishments awarded this prestigious honor. Tourists can try here not only sushi, but also tofu, pork cutlets, eel with okonomiyaki (a fried pancake made from a mixture of different ingredients, coated with a special sauce and sprinkled with thinly sliced dried tuna). In addition, the Japanese capital offers restaurants for every taste and budget – from establishments in skyscrapers with panoramic views to small pubs serving local cuisine.

Hanoi took second place. In the Vietnamese capital, according to experts, it is easy for travelers to experience the local cuisine – order freshly prepared noodles with sweet and sour soup, pork and fish sauce right on the street. Here you can also try a baguette filled with pâté, cucumber, herbs, onion and chili, as well as rice with fried pork, pork skin and fish sauce. Experts recommend ending the meal with traditional egg coffee.

London came third in the list for the variety of culinary delights the city has to offer, as well as the large number of restaurants, bars and pubs. Notably, London's Artesian, located in the five-star Langham hotel, took first place in the World's 50 Best Bars ranking for the fourth year in a row. It was also named the best bar in Europe.

In addition, as reported by Lenta.ru, the list includes New York, Bologna, New Orleans, Lima, Fez, Jaipur and other cities.

The Michelin Red Guide (Michelin, Le Guide Rouge), sometimes referred to as the Red Guide, is the most influential restaurant rating system, which uses a three-star evaluation system. One star tells travelers that the restaurant is very good in its category. Two stars mean 'excellent cuisine, worth a detour from the tourist route'. Finally, three stars indicate the excellent work of the chef and suggest that the establishment is worth a special journey.
