Every year, Germany becomes the venue for numerous popular music festivals. Stars of electronic and hip-hop music from around the world gather at these events. Deutsche Welle reports on a dozen of the best open-air concerts worth visiting this summer.
Maritime Her Damit Festival
The Her Damit music festival will take place not on the island of Rügen for the first time. The new location is being kept secret. "50 km from Berlin," the organizers write. In 2013, festival visitors vacationed on the largest German island. This year, Her Damit will take place from June 9 to 11. Ticket price: 84 euros.
Rhythmic Kosmonaut Festival
Four years ago, musicians of the band Kraftklub created their own small festival in Chemnitz. This summer, from June 16 to 17, at the Kosmonaut Festival, you can hear rapper Markus Winter, performing under the pseudonym Maeckes, as well as the girl duo Gurr. Ticket prices: from 49 to 83 euros (without camping).
Young Stil vor Talent
The eponymous festival of Oliver Koletzki's label Stil vor Talent will take place this year from June 3 to July 2 in three cities: Braunschweig, Berlin, and Hamburg. Ticket prices: from 18 to 28 euros.
Rock Pure & Crafted Festival
Pure & Crafted Festival is a festival to the roar of engines. This year, on August 26 and 27 in Berlin, the American band Interpool, the German band Giant Rooks, and the duo Gurr will perform. Ticket prices: from 20 euros for a day pass, entry to all concerts: 26 euros. The festival will take place on the grounds of the old Rummelburg power plant, which has become a cult spot in the German capital.
Large-Scale Feel Festival
The five-day Feel Festival will take place from July 6 to 10 on the shores of Lake Bergheider See in Berlin's Lichterfelde. The names of the headliners who will perform on 12 stages are being kept strictly secret. In addition to concerts, the audience can expect a cultural program – lectures, workshops, a food market, and open-air cinema. All tickets for the festival are already sold out.
Scandalous Lollapalooza
In 2017, the organizers of the legendary Lollapalooza again chose an unusual venue. The Hoppegarten racecourse has existed since 1868. Now, instead of extravagant hats, you can see an equally interesting crowd here. The festival will take place on September 9 and 10. The list of headliners includes Foo Fighters, The XX, Galantis, Mumford & Sons. Ticket prices: from 139 to 159 euros.
Lively Melt!
Every year, more than 20,000 spectators come to the Melt! festival. All thanks to world-famous performers who appear in this small German town. From July 14 to 16, fans of electronic and rock music will gather on the Ferropolis peninsula (in the "Iron City"). Ticket prices: from 59 to 140 euros. By the way, this year the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Beachy Helene Beach Festival
Sun, sand, and good music – the motto of the annual Helene Beach festival in Frankfurt an der Oder. From July 27 to 30, 120 stars of electronic music, including Bosse, Monkey Safari, K.I.Z., will perform simultaneously on seven stages. Ticket price: 89 euros.
Anniversary Dockville Festival
This summer, the Dockville festival in Hamburg will take place from August 18 to 20. You can come here with a tent and hear Moderat, Mura Masa, Sohn live. Price of remaining tickets: 104 euros (without camping).
Extreme Pangea
For those planning to combine sports and music, the Pangea festival, held in the town of Pütnitz near the island of Rügen, is suitable. From August 24 to 27, a venue for hip-hop performers, skateboarders, and circus artists will open on the site of a former Soviet military base. Pangea is one of the few festivals that offers entertainment for children. Ticket prices: from 56 to 110 euros.
