Canada - good luck finding a place to smoke here.
USA - smoking laws vary from state to state in the USA; New York banned smoking as early as 2003, but there are other smoke-free places, such as California.
Uruguay - this is the only South American country where smoking is banned indoors.
Argentina - smoking is strictly limited in Buenos Aires, but the laws are more liberal in other cities.
Chile - fairly strict smoking restrictions, although restaurants still have smoking and non-smoking sections.
New Zealand - indoor smoking is strictly regulated.
Australia - places where you can still smoke indoors are in the Northern Territory.
Singapore - smoking is prohibited in certain places, but further tightening of laws is expected.
Thailand - smoking is illegal in many public places, although tourists most likely never find out about it.
Hong Kong - smoking is banned in many offices, although you can relax and smoke in cafes until early 2009.
Bhutan - you can't even buy tobacco here.
India - a smoking ban was introduced on October 2, 2008, and the laws are strict.
Kenya - smoking is prohibited in parks.
Russia - got cigarettes? Smoke away!
Estonia - smoking is banned in many public places.
Finland - mostly smoke-free, although smoking rooms exist in some places.
Sweden - smoking has been banned in bars, restaurants, and cafes since June 2005.
Norway - indoor smoking has been banned since 2004.
Denmark - you can only smoke in small bars and cafes, and not everywhere even there.
Turkey - indoor smoking is banned, but smoking is allowed in bars and cafes until 2009.
Greece - unlike the rest of Europe, this country is a smoker's paradise.
Malta - smoking is banned in public places, although smoking tourists are a common sight.
Portugal - smoking is banned in public places.
Ireland - violating the smoking ban here can cost €3,000.
UK - good luck finding a place: smoking is banned in most places.
Belgium - smoking is banned in most restaurants and bars.
Netherlands - smoking tobacco indoors is banned, but you can smoke cannabis in coffee shops!
Germany - smoking is banned in many states.
France - the famous smoking ban in cafes, introduced in January, drove the French into underground restaurants.
Switzerland - smoking is banned in many cantons, but the Federal Supreme Court of Geneva overturned the ban on smoking in public places in September 2008.
Italy - quite strict laws for smokers are surprisingly well followed by Italians.
Croatia - smoking will be banned in early 2009.
