Who wears daily disposable contact lenses every day?

Recently, the company CooperVision, which ranks third in the world in terms of production capacity in the field of contact lenses, obtained interesting results during another sociological study. In total, about 1.2 billion daily disposable contact lenses are sold annually on the European contact lens market, a third of which are purchased by residents of the United Kingdom. About 2,000 Europeans who had to buy contact lenses this year took part in the study.

Promising UK market

Researchers at CooperVision found that the highest percentage of those who constantly use daily lenses is in the Netherlands (68%). In Spain, 52% of the people in the reference group constantly wear such lenses. Only 20% of the British participants in the study constantly wear daily disposable contact lenses.

The UK figures turned out to be half of the European average. Consequently, a significant number of British people use daily disposable contact lenses occasionally. This fact gave great hope to CooperVision's marketing director, Stuart Cockrill, who predicts great prospects for the European market of such lenses.

Stuart Cockrill believes that if Europeans switch to the 'British style' of using daily contact lenses, sales volumes of this product will increase sharply. This will inevitably be followed by an increase in the number of lens users, which will again stimulate the market.

And what is important to the user?

Of course, the researchers were also interested in the attitude of the buyers themselves towards lenses. They cite wearing comfort as the most important factor. Due to discomfort that occurred when wearing daily lenses, about 40% of respondents stopped using them. The remaining 60%, who regularly use daily disposable contact lenses, on the contrary, pointed out significant advantages of wearing them.

Product cost turned out to be a significant factor for another 32% of respondents. Overall, according to the study results, 42% of respondents expressed hope that contact lens manufacturers will pay more attention to the comfort of their use.

Manufacturers say they are not against changes that would make their products more comfortable for consumers. The study results revealed to them the main aspects that need to be worked on so that their products are purchased more often.
