Who Is Wanted for Work in Germany

There are many vacancies on the German labor market, the main thing is to skillfully use your knowledge

Highest demand – for IT personnel

Programmers, software developers and IT consultants are needed. But there are plenty of system analysts, administrators, and sales specialists. The shortage is in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Saxony. It is easiest to find a job in Germany for graduates of a 4-year bachelor's degree. Almost every tenth specialist in this country is a foreigner. They mainly come from the EU, India, Russia, Ukraine.

Engineers are required

The peak shortage of engineers in Germany occurred in 2011-2013. But even now the situation on the labor market for these specialists is favorable. First of all, in the south and west of the country, where many vacancies are unfilled. Personnel are needed for research and development departments, technologists, metallurgists, welding equipment engineers, specialists in mechatronics, automated control systems, and electrical engineering.

Skilled trades

In the technical field, specialists with vocational education are also needed, primarily with knowledge of mechatronics, automated control systems or electronic engineering. In addition, almost all federal states need specialists in metalworking, tinsmiths, specialists in sanitary and heating technology, as well as climate equipment.

In the construction sector

Due to the construction boom in Germany, there is a shortage of personnel for the construction of above-ground and underground structures, as well as interior finishing, in particular carpenters and glaziers. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg are most affected. However, qualified specialists (master, technician) are primarily required to supervise the work. Knowledge of the German language is mandatory.

Railway workers

Railway worker is another scarce profession in Germany. The shortage is most acute for specialists in railway operation and maintenance, locomotive and motor car drivers. The German labor market in this area is small and is mainly represented by the Deutsche Bahn concern. In July 2017, more than two thousand vacancies were open for specialists with higher and vocational education.

Medical personnel

The shortage of doctors has persisted for several years. With the exception of dentists, a wide variety of specialists are needed: general practitioners, pediatricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, dermatologists, orthopedists... They are especially lacking in the provinces. The worst situation is in Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Thuringia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria. Foreigners are welcome here too. To work as a doctor, you need to know German and have your qualifications recognized.

Care for the sick and elderly

In Germany, specialists in caring for the sick and/or elderly, as well as midwives, are in demand. In gerontology, there is demand for both nursing staff and healthcare workers with additional knowledge in rehabilitation medicine, palliative care or oncology. Physiotherapists also have good chances on the German labor market. German language and qualification recognition are mandatory.

In the field of medical technology

German employers also lack specialists in prosthetic-orthopedic and rehabilitation technology – both with higher and vocational education. Specialists in hearing aid acoustics are especially in demand, while there is no shortage of opticians and dental technicians. Recognition of qualifications is mandatory for foreigners if you want to engage in entrepreneurial activities.

Pharmacists

Many German pharmacies lack both pharmacists with higher education and assistants. The most acute shortage is in rural regions, where salaries are less attractive: a specialist can expect about 3,300 euros per month before taxes. Only one in five pharmacies manages to fill vacancies quickly. Foreigners are required to have knowledge of German and recognition of qualifications.

Scientists

German science also lacks highly qualified specialists. Chemists, physicists, mathematicians, biologists, mineralogists, geologists are needed – primarily those who have knowledge at the intersection of several disciplines. For example, in the field of technical chemistry, biotechnology, medical technology. Jobs are offered by research institutes and enterprises in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and automotive industries.

The mentioned specialists with higher education obtained, for example, in the countries of the former Soviet Union, can find work in Germany under the "Blue Card".
