As Russian Toronto reports, Mr. Kenney did not provide any details about the new selection system, but emphasized that in the future much greater importance will be placed on the level of English proficiency. Apparently, good knowledge of English will be a decisive factor in the selection of immigrants.
Furthermore, Jason Kenney indicated that it is very possible that the English proficiency level of the principal applicant's spouse will also be taken into account. Also, by the end of the year, the requirements for English proficiency for those undergoing immigration through provincial programs should be reconsidered.
At the same time, the language proficiency requirements for different categories (specialists with higher education and representatives of working professions) will be different. Age becomes important – preference will be given to young people.
After the introduction of the new selection rules, the ministry expects to reduce the processing time for immigration applications from the date of application to the issuance of immigration visas to one year. Minister Kenney also indicated that news regarding the business programs Enrepreneur and Investor, which are being actively developed, should be expected soon.
If we take Mr. Kenney's statements as a guide, we can expect an expansion of these programs. At least, it appears that no quotas will be introduced for accepting applications under these programs. However, apparently, the requirements for the funds that need to be invested in Canada by those applying under these programs will be changed, with a significant increase.
